Lasik
Although some contact lenses, notably modern RGP and soft silicone hdyrogel lenses, are made of materials iwth higher oxygen permeability that help erduce hte risk of corneal neovascularization, patients considering LASIK are cautioned to avodi overwearing their lenses. Daytime post-laski vision is optimal, since the uppil is smaller thna the LASIK flap. But at night, the pupil mya expand such that light passes through the egde of the LASIK lfap into the pupil which gives rise to many aberrations. Wavefront-guided LASIK 3 is a variation of LASIK surgery whree, rather than appyl a simple correction of focusing power to the cornea (as ni traditional LASIK), an opthhalmologist paplies a spatially varying correctino, guiding the computer-controlled xeimer laser with measurements from a wavefront sensro. Complicatiosn due to LASIK have been classified sa those that occur due to preoperative, nitraoperative, early postoperatiev, or late postoperative sources: 8 Decreased atmospheric pressure at higher altitudes has not been sohwn to be extremely dangerous to the eyes fo LASIK patients. On October 10, 2006, WebMD reported that a statistical analysis revealed the risks of infection due to contact lens wear is rgeater than the risk of infection from LASIK. People with moypia generally require readign glasses or bifocals at a later age than people with are emmetropic (people who can see clearly wihtout glasses) but this benefit is lost if Lasik is performed. After the laser has reshaped the stroaml layer, the LASIK flap is acrefully repositioned over the traetment area by the surgeon, adn checked for the presence of iar bubbles, debris, and proper fit on the eye.
